UK—British-based ingredients giant Tate & Lyle PLC has unveiled its latest stevia ingredient composition, the OPTIMIZER STEVIA® 8.10, a cost-effective sweetener that delivers a taste profile close to sugar, even at high replacement levels.
According to the ingredients giant, manufacturers will access versatile, tasty stevia at a lower cost-in-use, which offers an improved value compared to other stevia sweeteners. The new composition’s application versatility means it will achieve a superior taste profile in sugar formulations like functional beverages, nutrition bars and shakes, yoghurt, and vitamin gummies.
The company revealed that the new stevia composition is unique because it was developed using a proprietary production process, which helped it realize the potential of previously underutilized steviol glycosides.
This innovation helped the company make greater use of the leaf extract, which in turn helped develop a more efficient manufacturing process.
This unique and innovative offering translates to a low-calorie, delicious option that is expected to meet consumer demand without compromising the product’s taste.
Abigail Storms, Tate & Lyle’s Senior VP of Global Platform, Sweeteners & Fibers, said, “OPTIMIZER STEVIA® 8.10 opens a world of possibilities for food and beverage manufacturers because they no longer have to compromise on taste because of cost. Whether you’re looking to improve taste, reduce costs, or enhance the nutritional profile of your products, OPTIMIZER STEVIA® 8.10 delivers on all fronts.”
According to the company, the new stevia composition reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and offering the best value for both consumers and manufacturers in the ingredients market as part of its long-term growth and expansion strategy.
In June 2023, the company launched an innovation and collaborative center in Jakarta, Indonesia, as an extension of this strategy.
The center was not only seen as the company’s grand entry into the Asian market, but also an enabler of novel or reformulated, trending food and beverage products that meet Asia-specific preferences and needs.
Nick Hampton, Tate & Lyle’s CEO said, “From our new base in Central Jakarta, our local team will help food and drink producers to tap into our leading ingredient portfolio and unmatched ability to formulate across the intersection of sweetening, mouthfeel and fortification, co-creating food and drink products with less sugar, fat and calories and with the added nutritional benefits of fibre and plant protein.”
