TechnoServe, EHPEA, and ATI form alliance to strengthen Ethiopian horticulture

ETHIOPIA – A new collaboration is set to boost Ethiopia’s horticulture industry, bringing together expertise from TechnoServe (TNS), the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA), and the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI).

The agreement aims to improve certification standards, advance industry roadmaps, and create a more business-friendly environment for horticulture producers.

TechnoServe, known for its work in developing sustainable market connections for farmers and agribusinesses, will contribute its experience in improving productivity and supply chain efficiency.

EHPEA, a key industry association, continues to champion investment, training, and policy advocacy to strengthen horticulture exports. Meanwhile, ATI, a government-led institution, plays a pivotal role in addressing sector-wide challenges and driving agricultural transformation in Ethiopia.

By leveraging their combined strengths, the three organizations seek to create lasting solutions that enhance competitiveness and sustainability in the horticulture sector.

The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) has been actively engaging stakeholders to strengthen the sector. On February 21, 2025, EHPEA held its Annual General Assembly at the Skylight Hotel, bringing together member farms to assess the fiscal year’s performance and ongoing challenges.

“The meeting was an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made in improving the business environment through advocacy, capacity building, and market linkages,” an EHPEA representative said. Discussions also covered strategies to further enhance trade opportunities and the competitiveness of Ethiopian horticultural exports.

In an effort to increase awareness about the industry’s contributions, the Ethiopian Media Women Association visited flower farms in Batu on February 15, 2025.

This visit, organized in collaboration with Sher Ethiopia Plc., Ziway Roses Plc., AQ Roses, Bram Flowers, and Herburg Rose, allowed media professionals to gain firsthand insights into the sector’s operations.

“The visit helped us understand how the horticulture industry plays a role in job creation, women’s empowerment, and knowledge transfer,” one of the participating journalists said.

The media representatives also noted the industry’s economic impact and the importance of sustainable farming practices.

Ethiopia showcases excellence at Fruit Logistica 2025

Ethiopia’s horticulture sector was well-represented at Fruit Logistica 2025, which took place in Berlin on February 4, 2025.

In collaboration with the CBI-Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries, EHPEA provided training and coaching sessions to Ethiopian horticulture farms on trade fair participation and stand presentation.

Industry representatives emphasized the importance of international trade fairs in expanding market access and promoting Ethiopian produce. The sessions focused on strengthening engagement with buyers and improving visibility in global markets.

With these ongoing initiatives and collaborations, Ethiopia’s horticulture industry is positioned for growth, aiming to strengthen its market presence and ensure long-term sustainability.
