SWEDEN – Tetra Pak has announced the appointment of Sara De Simoni as its new Executive Vice President of Development and Technology (D&T), effective 1 September 2024.
With over 24 years of experience at Tetra Pak, De Simoni has an impressive track record of leading innovation in areas such as solutions development, programme management, and equipment engineering.
In her new role, De Simoni will be responsible for driving the company’s technological and developmental strategies, focusing on delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for Tetra Pak’s global food and beverage customers.
She will also oversee the deployment of these initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure they are implemented effectively.
Commenting on her appointment, De Simoni said, “Tetra Pak D&T brings together an exceptionally talented team of designers and innovators. I am proud to lead them in shaping the future of food packaging, focusing on innovation, design excellence, and sustainable solutions that place our customers at the centre of everything we do.”
Throughout her career at Tetra Pak, De Simoni has held several leadership positions, including Vice President of Programme Management in D&T, and has played a pivotal role in the development of the company’s carton packaging opening systems.
Her appointment comes at a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly vital in the food and beverage industry.
Tetra Pak has set ambitious goals to create the world’s most sustainable paper-based packaging, aligning with growing consumer demand and regulatory requirements for environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
De Simoni’s leadership is expected to accelerate the company’s sustainability initiatives and strengthen its position in the market.
In July, Tetra Pak partnered with creative technology studio Appetite Creative to launch an on-pack connected experience aimed at sustainability education.
This initiative, available in Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Austria, allows consumers to scan QR codes on packaging to access interactive games and learn about Tetra Pak’s sustainability efforts.
Tetra Pak also plans to invest €500 million over the next five years into research on sustainable packaging materials, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
In its 2023 sustainability report, the company reported a 7 percent increase in carton package recycling globally and a 20 percent reduction in value chain greenhouse gas emissions since 2019.
