UGANDA – Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL),a subsidiary of beverage giant Diageo, has officially appointed Catherine Ndungu as the new Marketing & Innovations Director, effective from February 1, 2024.
Catherine, who previously held the position of Acting UBL Marketing Director, will be taking over from Emmy Hashakimana, who assumed the role of Commercial Director in 2023.
Catherine’s journey within the East Africa Brewery Limited (EABL) includes a period as the Head of Beer, showcasing her extensive experience across brands.
Her background also spans renowned multinationals such as Heineken and GlaxoSmithKline, providing a solid foundation in both trade and brand marketing.
In a statement, UBL expressed confidence in Catherine’s abilities, citing her “exceptional dedication, leadership, creativity, discipline in operations management, and controls during her tenure.”
The company anticipates her continued contributions to UBL’s success and growth, expecting fresh perspectives to drive marketing and innovations to new heights.
This announcement follows UBL’s recent addition to their beer portfolio, the WhiteCap Crisp. Launched earlier this year, this premium beer boasts only 3% alcohol by volume (ABV) and contains no added sugar, making it the first light beer by ABV in the Ugandan market.
UBL officials note that WhiteCap Crisp, made from all-natural ingredients, caters to consumers interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle while enjoying social occasions.
The introduction of WhiteCap Crisp not only addresses the growing demand for low and non-alcoholic drinks but also aligns with UBL’s strategy to balance the premium nature of its beers with substantial value and emerging trends in the beverage market.
