UGANDA – Uganda Breweries Limited, a subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited, has expanded its partnership with multinational logistics company DHL to enhance its supply chain capabilities.

Under the new partnership, DHL has delivered to the brewery 3 additional trucks with a capacity of 1,340 cases per trip and 12 forklifts.

The flagging off ceremony was presided over by UBL Managing Director, Andrew Itambo Kilonzo who was accompanied by UBL leadership team – most notably the Corporate Relations Director Juliana Kagwa and the Sales and Commercial Director Ben Mbuvi.

DHL Africa Managing Director, Arnold Bremer Pauw, the DHL Africa Business Director, Gilles JEAN Riviere and the DHL East Africa Managing Director, Tito Okuku.

“These were flagged off to support the growth of UBL, specifically the distribution of UBL products,” UBL said in a statement posted on LinkedIn.

“The additional 3 trucks and 12 forklifts will increase the efficacy by an estimated 50% and deliver better efficiency and turn around time.”

The expanded partnership with DHL follows the recent commissioning of a Sh39.9 billion (US$11 million) production line at the company’s production facility in Port Bell.

The new line is anticipated to increase the brewer’s production capacity to 30,000 330ml Bottles Per Hour and 25,000 500ml Bottlers per hour averaging Best – in Class efficiency of 94%.

The new investment comes at an opportune time with UBL having registered a marked increase in sales and market share growth over the past year.

Uganda Breweries was in fact the best-performing business for its parent company EABL in the just released financial results, recording a 19% growth in net sales as compared to Tanzania’s 11% and Kenya’s -1% growth.

Valentines special

Meanwhile, the brewer of Bell, Guinness, and Ngule Beer brands also unveiled new gift packs to help consumers celebrate this years valentines day.

The gift backs are inspired by the company’s range of spirits and liquers and come in two different formats: a bailey based gift pack and a Johnnie Walker whiskey inspired valentine special.

The Bailey’s Special includes a 750ML bottle of Irish Crème,  a packet of cookies, a bar of chocolate, abox of Macarons, a packet of skittles, scented candle, and a chocolate gift set.

The Johny Walker Whiskey Overload will retail at UGX 319,400 during the promotion period and features a bottles of JW Black, a gift box, whiskey glasses, cookies and a bar of chocolate.
