UGANDA – Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), a subsidiary of East Africa’s alcohol beverage giant, East African Breweries Limited (EABL), has announced the retirement of Mr. Japheth Katto from its Board of Directors.
Mr. Katto is exiting his role having served on the UBL Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director for eight years, during which he held the position of Board Chairman for four years.
Mr. Jimmy D. Mugerwa will succeed Mr. Katto as Chairman of the Board effective July 1, 2023, after serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the UBL Board since July 2018.
The brewer said Mr. Mugerwa is an experienced Board Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director, having served in this capacity in the financial, insurance, beverage, and oil & gas sectors.
He has chaired industry associations, including being Chairperson of the Uganda Presidential Investor Round Table for Oil and Gas for four years adding up to his over 30 years of experience working in the oil & gas sector with Tullow Oil PLC and Shell Oil across Africa & Europe.
Mr. Mugerwa is also the founder & CEO of Zoramu Consulting Group, a boutique oil & gas consulting firm and he is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of DFCU Group and as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Boards of East African Breweries PLC and Jubilee Allianz Insurance Group.
He is also on the Incoming Chairman of thr Advisory Board of Veracity Worldwide, USA.
Joining Mr. Mugerwa on the Board is Mr. Felix Okoboi as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the company.
Mr. Okoboi is an experienced finance and investments professional, with over 25 years of local and international finance, development finance, real estate, and project management experience having worked in various roles in the U.S.A, Europe, and Uganda.
He is passionate about impact investing and sustainability and specializes in advisory work in the distressed assets, real estate, and equity investments space.
Mr. Okoboi is currently the Board Chairman of the Uganda Development Bank, the Agricultural Business Initiative (aBi), and Britam Insurance Uganda.
He is also a Non-Executive Director of East African Breweries PLC (EABL) and the Chairman of the Independent Non-Executive Director Investment Committee of the Yield Uganda Investment Fund.
UBL is renowned for its portfolio of popular brands, including Bell Lager, Tusker Malt Lager, Guinness, and Pilsner Lager, among others.
The company has established itself as a market leader in Uganda, and its products are widely enjoyed by consumers across the country.
