UGANDA – Uganda’s Minister for Finance in charge of Investments, Evelyn Anite, has committed to assisting Ranchers Finest in securing international Halal certification, a move aimed at expanding the company’s global market reach.
During a visit to the company’s meat processing facility in Kawempe, Kampala District, Minister Anite praised Ranchers Finest’s management for their efforts in enhancing Uganda’s export potential.
She emphasized that the plant’s operations align with President Yoweri Museveni’s push for value addition in agriculture, highlighting the opportunity for Uganda to increase its meat exports.
Reflecting on Uganda’s missed opportunity to fulfill a beef export deal with the United Kingdom four years ago, Anite expressed optimism that Ranchers Finest could bridge this gap.
She noted that the demand for Ugandan meat products in international markets could provide farmers with more stable and profitable outlets, shielding them from exploitative practices within the local market.
Minister Anite further pledged to collaborate with the country’s Muslim leaders to facilitate the acquisition of Halal certification for Ranchers Finest, stressing the importance of this certification in unlocking global trade opportunities.
This initiative comes as Uganda makes strides in boosting its beef exports, following the recent trial shipment of 50 tonnes of beef to Egypt.
The shipment, conducted under the Egypt-Uganda Food Security Company, marked the first such export and emphasized on the growing agricultural trade ties between the two nations, reinforced by recent agreements signed by their leaders.
The success of this trial could potentially open the door to increased beef exports from Uganda in the near future.
