SOUTH AFRICA – Mondelēz International, a global leader in the snacking industry, has appointed Unathi Mhlatyana as its new managing director for the Southern Africa region, effective March 1, 2024.
Bringing a wealth of experience to his new role, Mhlatyana joins Mondelēz International following a successful tenure as Managing Director at McCain Foods for the past three years.
His professional journey includes significant roles at Eveready/Gillette Group, where he spent eight years in process engineering, quality control, and manufacturing, as well as a decade-long tenure at SAB/AB InBev, where he held various leadership positions in sales, marketing, distribution, general management, and projects.
Prior to that, he served as Senior Director and General Manager for South African Snacks (Simba) at PepsiCo.
Mhlatyana’s academic background includes a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Nelson Mandela University, complemented by a degree in Labour Law & Industrial Engineering, a diploma in management development, Btech Quality, and a national diploma in industrial engineering from the same institution.
He also holds a diploma in labour law from the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology.
As a member of the Institute of Directors (IODSA), Mhlatyana brings valuable board experience, having served on the boards of Simba from 2018 to 2021, and McCain SAF and McCain Farms of the Future Africa from 2021 to 2024.
Commenting on Mhlatyana’s appointment, Owen Cressey, President of Mondelēz International’s Sub-Saharan Africa business unit, expressed the company’s excitement about welcoming him onboard.
