USA – T.W. Garner Food Company has issued a recall on its Texas Pete Habanero Buffalo Sauce due to the potential presence of undeclared sulfites, and Sweet CHAbanero Sweet Sriracha Habanero Sauce due to mislabeling.
During internal product quality testing, the firm discovered that bottles of Habanero Buffalo Sauce contained Sriracha sauce.
After further reviews, it was determined that the Habanero Buffalo Sauce may contain undeclared sulfites since Sriracha Sauce contains sodium bisulfite as a preservative.
As for Texas Pete Sweet CHAbanero Sauce, select lots and sizes of the bottles lack the labeled ingredient Aged Peppers (Red Habanero Peppers, Salt, Vinegar).
The impacted products were distributed between 02/05/2025 and 03/26/2025, with varying sell-by dates depending on the product, as listed on the FDA’s website.
These products were distributed to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and Vermont.
Although no illness has been reported, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
In addition to sulfites, tree nuts, eggs, and milk are other allergens whose frequent undeclaration threatens those with allergies and severe sensitivities.
Undeclared cashew nuts
For example, Trophy Nut Company of Tipp City, Ohio, has recalled 143 cases of its Heinen’s 8.25-oz cans of Honey-Roasted Peanuts due to the possible presence of cashews.
The recall was initiated after receiving a consumer complaint that the product labeled Honey Roasted Peanuts contained cashews.
Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.
Undeclared eggs
Elsewhere, Caraluzzi’s Markets of Bethel has also recalled eight ounces of its Italian-style seafood Burgers because they contain undeclared eggs.
The recall was initiated after an investigation into a consumer complaint. It was discovered that a product containing eggs was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs. The mislabeled product has since been withdrawn.
The affected product is Caraluzzi’s Italian Style Seafood Burger, 8 oz. (UPC: 0-95864-80008-8), sold in-store at Caraluzzi’s Markets locations in Bethel, Wilton, Newtown and Danbury, Connecticut, between February 18, 2025 and April 2, 2025.
It can be identified by its clear packaging and blue overwrap label. It expires on January 16, 2026.
Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the companies through their respective addresses.
