SOUTH AFRICA – Unilever SA has issued a recall for its Knorr brown onion gravy sachets due to the presence of undeclared allergens.

The recall comes after the company found that certain packets might contain traces of cow’s milk and soy.

In a statement, Unilever revealed that a batch of Knorr brown onion gravy packets was mistakenly filled with ingredients meant for Knorr professional brown sauce base.

As a result, the affected products contain cow’s milk and soy, allergens not listed on the packaging.

Unilever has advised consumers who purchased Knorr brown onion gravy with batch codes BB 11 DEC 2025 KM 4163 E14A or BB 12 DEC 2025 KM 4164 E14A to return the products for a refund or contact Unilever SA.

Janine Van Rooyen, Unilever’s nutrition lead in Southern Africa, emphasized the brand’s commitment to consumer safety, stating, “The health and well-being of our consumers are our top priorities. Upon discovering the issue, we halted production and implemented corrective measures.”

Van Rooyen has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their understanding and continued support, reaffirming Unilever’s dedication to maintaining high quality and safety standards.

In related news, Unilever also expanded its Knorr product range in the U.S. with the introduction of Knorr Liquid Seasoning Chili.

Popular in the Philippines, this new seasoning combines chili peppers and soy sauce, offering a rich and balanced flavor.

This launch aligns with Unilever International’s mission to provide authentic, convenient flavor solutions for Asian cuisine, making globally popular Knorr products accessible to a wider American audience.

Knorr Liquid Seasoning Chili promises to become a staple in American kitchens, adding a spicy, sweet, and savory touch to various dishes, from marinating meats to serving as a vegetable dip.
