Vall Companys attains full ownership of Spanish pork producer Embutidos Rodríguez

SPAIN – Grupo Vall Companys, has acquired full ownership of Embutidos Rodríguez, a company that specialises in pork products also based in Spain.

Founded 60 years ago, Vall Company Group started as a flour manufacturer and later on delved into the meat processing industry where it is currently one of the most prominent industry leaders in Europe.

It is also Spain’s largest poultry processing company although it also has a strong presence in beef and cured meats as well as in the supply of flour and animal feed.

The family-owned group purchased a 10% stake in Embutidos Rodríguez back in 2017, which rose to 40% by the end of 2022.

This takeover was approved by the National Commission of Markets and Competition, Spain’s market regulator and competition watchdog.

Embutidos Rodríguez, also known as Sausages Rodríguez, is located in the municipality of Soto de la Vega in the province of León.

The company specialises in a range of pork products such as chorizo, Iberian hams and cold meats. It was initially a supplier of Iberian ham to Vall Company before 2017.

The Iberian ham team of Vall Company Group had been operating in the facilities of Embutidos Rodríguez for years, dedicating itself to the slaughtering, cutting, and distribution of its Iberian ham brand.

Vall’s full control of Embutidos could not be timelier the meat market is expected to grow annually by 2.94% (CAGR 2023-2027), according to data from Statista.

The market research firm further estimates that the revenue in the meat segment which amounts to US$26.93bn in 2023 and will grow to US$30.24 billion by 2027.

Vall says that the total acquisition of Embutidos Rodríguez consolidates their ham operations and “strengthens its growth prospects in the short- and medium-term in the national and international markets.”

Embutidos Rodríguez currently has a turnover of EUR200 million (US$212M) and generates a total of 600 direct jobs at its facilities in León.

Vall Company on the other hand reported a EUR2.3 billion (US$2.4B) turnover for the year 2021, majority of which is generated by poultry and closely followed by pork.

Its poultry division has 4 slaughterhouses and five cutting rooms with an annual capacity of more than 115,000 tonnes.
