USA – Walmart announced that it has embarked on producing its own brand of pre-portioned kits and it was set to launch a range of meal kits in 2,000 of its stores across the US this year.

The new meal kits are prepared through innovation and a series of test techniques at Walmart’s Culinary and Innovation Center opened to develop new products, allow retailers test new private label items.

A team of expertise combines modern recipes covering Steak Dijon, Basil Garlic Chicken, Sweet Chili Chicken Stir Fry, Pork Florentine.

Meal kit lovers will enjoy convenience since they are provided with meals that can be heated up and on the table in less than 15 minutes.

Walmart provides a wide range of options including pre-portioned meal kits, rotisserie chicken meals and one step meals found in various variations.

“Customers are busier than ever and we know getting a delicious dinner on the table can be a chore.

We’re here to help,” said Tyler Lehr, senior vice president and general merchandise manager, Deli Services, Walmart U.S.

“These delicious meals give the best or worst of cooks a fresh, easy option for dinner tonight, or later this week.”

The retailer said that the meal options serve two people and range in price from US$8 to US$15 and in addition, will also offer ready-to-heat meals.

The meal kits will also be available through Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup where customers can order online.

Walmart is embarking on a sustainable delivery system that is Walmart.com which offers a variety of meal delivery kits and other specialty food items like farm fresh crates and snack boxes.

Amazon debuted AmazonFresh that sells its pre-packaged meal kits, in addition to the recent acquisition of Whole Foods for US$13.7 billion, to boost delivery services.
