USA – Wayne-Sanderson Farms, an American poultry producer, has announced that they have been monitoring the retail chicken industry for some time.
Over the last 12 to 18 months, Wayne-Sanderson Farms has noticed that seasonal purchasing patterns have returned to historical norms, according to Drew Cole, the company’s vice president of retail sales.
Retail sales of fresh chicken remained strong throughout 2024, and industry projections indicate that demand will persist in 2025.
Despite ongoing market challenges such as inflation and competition from other proteins, Wayne-Sanderson Farms expects steady demand for its products.
Cole stated that the company is well-positioned to meet consumer needs, particularly as economic pressures lead shoppers to seek cost-effective protein options.
Sales data show consistent year-over-year growth across most of the company’s core fresh chicken cuts.
One trend the company is monitoring is the increasing demand for budget-friendly chicken cuts, with many consumers opting for dark meat and larger tray sizes.
Cole noted that inflation has influenced shopping behavior, pushing consumers to prioritize value and look for ways to make their grocery budgets stretch further.
In response, Wayne-Sanderson Farms has adjusted its production strategies to focus on efficiently processing and packaging these preferred cuts.
The company aims to optimize its supply chain to ensure cost savings are passed on to consumers without compromising quality.
Wayne-Sanderson Farms is also undergoing leadership changes, with chief executive officer Clint Rivers set to retire.
Kevin McDaniel, who currently serves as chief operating officer, will take over as CEO.
As the company prepares for this transition, it remains focused on long-term growth and adapting to industry shifts, Cole said.
Sustainability efforts are another priority for the company, particularly in its approach to packaging.
Wayne-Sanderson Farms is working to adopt more environmentally friendly packaging solutions to reduce waste and improve sustainability.
Cole stated that the company is actively exploring new technologies and setting targets for responsible sourcing, production, and packaging.
