UK – Wessanen UK has expanded its Kallø portfolio of rice cakes with a new honey rice and corn variant.
Containing three ingredients – rice, corn and honey – the organic product will be available in a 125g pack containing 13 jumbo-sized rice cakes from August at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Ocado and other retailers in the UK.
This will be the third sweet-flavoured rice cakes in the Kallø range, alongside apple and cinnamon, and blueberry and vanilla.
With 37 calories per cake, the product is marketed as “a simple and healthy choice for breakfast and morning snacking”.
“Kallø’s delicious new rice and corn cake is an exciting new addition to our growing portfolio of healthy foods,” said Bryan Martins, marketing and category director at Wessanen UK.
“The 125g pack is ideal for keeping at work or at home, as a convenient breakfast for those on the go, or a great-tasting snack.
“Calorie-laden snacks can soon add up and so lighter options, like the new honey rice and corn cakes, can help consumers make more considered, healthy food choices.”
The new product will be available with a recommended retail price of £1.90.
Wessanen launched high-protein range of Kallø lentil-based rice and corn cakes in 2017 in response to increasing demand for protein-rich snacks.
The cakes contain lentils, chickpeas, sprouting peas, rice and corn, free of of both gluten and wheat to offer healthy and tasty option for those with specific dietary requirements.
In May, it expanded its Mrs Crimble’s gluten-free cake portfolio with the launch of new Lunchbox Loaf Cakes.
At under 130 calories, the double chocolate sponge cakes include chocolate chips and a chocolate flavoured gooey centre, while the jammy cakes feature a raspberry filling.
Wessanen which owns brands such as Clipper Tea, Kallø and Whole Earth agreed to an acquisition deal with a consortium consisting of private equity firm PAI Partners and Charles Jobson, Wessanen’s largest shareholder.
