USA – William Grant & Sons has appointed James Casey as the new Managing Director of its US operations.
Casey joins the company from Constellation Brands, where he served as Chief Sales Officer for the wine and spirits division.
Casey replaces Paul Basford, who left the company in November after nearly four years in the role. Basford has since moved on to become Chief Commercial Officer at Pernod Ricard USA.
With over 27 years of leadership experience in the consumer goods and beverage industry, Casey brings expertise in strategic planning, execution, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
His career includes roles at Diageo, Gallo, and Treasury Wine Estates before joining Constellation in 2018.
Following his appointment, Casey expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating: “Thrilled to be part of a renowned spirits industry leader with a strong heritage and unwavering commitment to excellence. Joining a talented US team, I’m eager to contribute to the company’s brand-building legacy and growth.”
Vérane named CMO
Alongside Casey’s appointment, William Grant & Sons has named Vérane de Marffy as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of its US division.
Marffy, previously the Global Deputy General Manager at Ralph Lauren Fragrances under L’Oréal, brings a wealth of experience in brand development and marketing strategy.
The leadership changes come shortly after the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) approved William Grant & Sons Group’s acquisition of The Famous Grouse and Naked Malt from Edrington.
While the CMA has cleared the transaction, William Grant stated that finalizing the deal remains “subject to customary regulatory approval in certain other countries, and we will continue to work constructively with the relevant authorities.”
The company, known for its premium spirits portfolio, produces Scotch whiskies such as Glenfiddich, Grant’s, and The Balvenie.
It also owns brands across other categories, including Hendrick’s gin, Sailor Jerry rum, Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, and Drambuie liqueur.
In September 2023, William Grant expanded its gin portfolio by acquiring Silent Pool Distillers, strengthening its position in the premium spirits market.
