ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products Plc’s stock feed plant in Mpongwe, which will have a production capacity of about 15,000 tonnes of feed per month, is expected to be commissioned in May this year.

Currently, the firm is producing about 13,000 tonnes of stock feed monthly for chickens, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep and fish at its Novatek plant.

Company executive director Yosuf Koya is optimistic that the plant will play a significant role in Zambia’s agriculture sector through meeting the increasing demand for stock feed on the market.

Meanwhile, Mr Koya said the company is confident that the 2016/17 harvest will be good despite losing 40 hectares of maize crop at its Huntley Farm due to heavy rains early this year.

For the 2016/17 farming season, Zambeef Products has cultivated 854 hectares of maize at its Huntley Farm in Chisamba and 2,063 hectares in Mpongwe.

“Last year, we produced about 41,000 tonnes of soyabean while for wheat and maize we harvested 42,000 tonnes and 25,000 tonnes respectively,” he said.
